Yahoo News Famous in Love star claims executives called her "ugly"
Actress Bella Thorne was allegedly called "ugly" by US network Freeform's executives during her time on TV show Famous in Love.
Bella starred as Paige Townsen in the drama series, which followed the exploits of an ordinary college student whose life gets turned upside down when she lands a role in a Hollywood blockbuster.
However, it was cancelled after just two seasons.
Speaking to LA Times recently, the 21-year-old has reflected on her time on the show and her experience with some of the production's executives (via Indie Wire).
"One issue is when you have a girl, a young girl who is on your show, you can't tell her that she's ugly or she's fat or she's this or she's that because that's going to make her feel bad," she explained.
Bella was just a teenager when the first season was being shot and chose not to specifically name names when it comes to her allegations.
When asked who called her ugly, Bella elaborated: "The network. In emails, and there was another thing that was in front of everyone on-set.
"After, the cast was texting me, 'Oh, my God, Bella. I am so sorry. That was so awkward. I feel so bad. Do you want me to come over to your room?', 'Oh, my God, I can't believe they did that.'
"It was all supposed to change on season 2, and it didn't."
When her Freeform show "Famous in Love" was cancelled in June, reports claimed it was bc of her "diva-like behavior." LA Times journalist Amy Kaufman also posted part of her interview with the actress on social media, including an excerpt in which Bella claimed that Freeform executives saw her as being "uncontrollable and crazy".
Digital Spy has reached out to Freeform for comment.
The claims come shortly after Thorne spoke candidly about being sexually abused as a child earlier this year.
