A well known bar in the heart of Newcastle has had a change of look and a change of name to re-open as The Grainger Tavern.

For years and years, Butlers was a popular calling point for many people in the city centre. You could guarantee that if you walked past Butlers, just like its neighbour The Black Garter, there would be people both inside and out, will a strong chance that there'd be the sound of Red Light Spells Danger or Paradise By the Dashboard coming from its doors, either from the speakers or via someone's attempts on karaoke.

Butlers was also a popular place with dance music fans, hosting a number of its own themed events, as well as being a ticket location and meeting point for people attending big events elsewhere in the city. But,. now Butlers is no more and, after a makeover to its interior and exterior, it has now relaunched in the same premise as Grainger Tavern.

In a brilliant place in town, taking its name from the legendary Grainger Market directly opposite, Grainger Tavern opened its doors for the first time at the end of last year, after the final post on the Butlers Facebook account in September revealed that it would be 'closed for refurbishment.'

Given Butlers' popularity, interest was keen in its entering its new era as Grainger Tavern, with it establishing itself as a big favourite of Newcastle United supporters in its first month of business and being very busy on match days as a result, both when fans enjoy a drink or two before and after a trip to st James' Park or when they want to catch Eddie Howe's team in action on TV when they play away.

Grainger Tavern has already been gathering some positive reviews online as well, with one happy customer describing it as 'great neighborhood pub, perfect to watch matches" and another reveller writing: "Great spot, lovely staff" as they praised its 'fun atmosphere and cheap drinks.'
