Famous Newcastle cocktail bar on sale for £1.5m years after closing down
Going back 20 years or so, it was one of THE best places to go in town for a cocktail and now the building once occupied by the Pravda bar, could be yours for a cool £1.5 million.
In the same era that Aveika restaurant was still very much in its Chase era, Sambuca was Casa and places like Sea, Quilted Camel and Bar 38 would have revellers flocking most nights of the week, Pravda was a calling point on many people's nights out down the Quayside, usually before a trip over the Swing Bridge to end up on The Boat or at Buffalo Joes and Baja Beach Club.
Pravda was known for its rather potent and typically very affordable cocktail concoctions, whether they were served individually or in a pitcher, with the once thriving haunt known for its midweek drink deals. However, just like at its Quayside neighbours from back in the day, last orders were called years ago at Pravda, with it sadly standing empty ever since.

And now, it has appeared on a number of property sites online, with offers of over £1.5m invited for the 7,000 sq ft three storey building. which still has the Pravda sign up outside, as a lasting memory of its former hey day. The location of the former bar is a rather desirable one, with it right near to the Innside by Melia hotel and Gino's restaurant and right next to the Copthorne and haunts like The Quayside Bar, newer favourite The Dubliner, Tiger Hornsby and the Michelin starred and award winning House of Tides.
The site is identified by Newcastle City Council as being viable for mixed use, with a description on the Sanderson Young website reading: "It is therefore our view that a wide range of development types for the site should be acceptable including leisure, hotel, residential, retail, business and other unique uses, subject to statutory planning permission. The site provides developers with a unique opportunity to deliver a high quality and attractive scheme within Newcastle’s popular Quayside area."
