It's well established by now that Thor: Ragnarok draws from the 'Planet Hulk' storyline about gladiatorial battles on an alien world.

But at one point even Marvel didn't know it was going to adapt it, and, strangely, that led it to change the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has revealed that they altered the Age of Ultron script so as to not give fuel to the rumours that a 'Planet Hulk' film was coming... before going on to decide that actually, it would be a part of the next Thor movie.

"You had the big scoop about us doing 'Planet Hulk'," he told The Wrap. "It turned out to be accurate [but] at the time, it was not accurate because we didn't have any plans to do it and Joss [Whedon] was doing Age of Ultron at that time. The way it ends as you recall with Hulk in the Quinjet going off, right?"

Marvel didn't want to lend credence to the (then) incorrect rumours, so removed a line saying that Hulk had been detected passing Saturn – suggesting that he had travelled into outer space.

"So in the movie, it's, 'We lost the signal out by the Caspian Sea'. Or something like that, it was all earthbound."

The decision to introduce Hulk into Thor: Ragnarok's story came a lot later, when Marvel decided that it needed "something big" to add to the film. And it doesn't get much bigger than an angry green giant, right?

Chris Hemsworth, Cate Blanchett, Tessa Thompson, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba and Anthony Hopkins will star in Taika Waititi's upcoming movie, which sees the death goddess Hela invade Asgard as Thor is imprisoned on the aforementioned gladiator planet.

Thor: Ragnarok will be released on October 24 in the UK and November 3 in the US.
