High-flying holidaymakers have the chance to camp out in style in this holiday home fashioned from a disused HELICOPTER.

The quirky conversion sleeps up to four people and offers a plush stay with a section in the tail that acts as a double bed.

The grounded helicopter was snapped up by bosses at Ream Hills Holiday Park in Preston, Lancs, who redesigned it to allow families to stay inside.

Manager Sarah Gerrard said a new park was being developed on land around the lake at a wake park on the site.

'We are putting 50 touring pitches, a tent field and luxury lodges with hot tubs.

'The owner has always been a keen flier and he bought nine helicopters.

'As the park has been developed he said why don’t we convert one into overnight sleeping accommodation, and it was finished about two weeks ago.

'We have only converted one, but it’s very likely we will be converting a few more because I think we will need to because of the response,' she said.

The park will open to visitors later in the spring, offering caravan pitches, tent fields and lodges, as well as the chance to stay inside the transformed chopper.

Sarah explained: 'In the main section, where the two sliding doors would normally be, we have had the floor lowered and there is a pull-down double bed.

'It’s two bunks at the minute and it forms a settee.

'There's a microwave and a sink, from our point of view it's like staying in a tent.'

The caravan park, including the helicopter, is due to open to the public at the beginning of May.
