Signs have gone up and jobs are on the horizon for the upcoming Captain Cook Square restaurant Bazaar.

Last year, it was revealed that Tarek Thoma - the man behind The Oven Restaurant on Linthorpe Road - would be opening a luxurious new venue at the Middlesbrough complex. The exciting new venue promises to feature flavours from around the world and "exquisite" food, cocktails and desserts.

Bazaar branding has now been erected on the front of the Middlesbrough town centre venue, which was previously Brewhouse & Kitchen, and fences surrounding the huge site. The business teased on Facebook that it would be opening its doors in summer 2024 back in April.

And as work continues at the site, it appears that the restaurant - promised to feature luxurious interior design and a glass orangery extension wrapped around the building - is nearing completion. The Bazaar Restaurant Facebook page has begun advertising for job roles including an ‘experienced Michelin-starred Head Chef’ - which comes with a £70,000 salary. Bazaar is also advertising for a head pastry chef, sous chef, night baker, breakfast chef, assistant manager and a duty manager.

The executive head chef role will ‘lead a brigade of 16 talented chefs in one of the most thrilling new restaurant openings in the UK’. The post on Facebook states: “Aspiring to become the leading restaurant in Tees Valley, we are dedicated to delivering exceptional culinary experiences to our guests. With our ultimate open kitchen concept, you will have the opportunity to showcase your skills and creativity like never before.

“If you are an ambitious and talented head chef ready to take on this exciting challenge, we would love to hear from you. Join our team and be a part of the journey towards becoming the leading restaurant in Tees Valley.” Bazaar is offering a “competitive salary of £70,000 per annum”, along with “performance-based bonuses and tips” and “assistance with relocation to the area”. In March, new concept art showed off how the interior design could look at the restaurant and bar, with foliage seen hanging down from the ceiling beside quirky light structures and what appears to be a central circular bar area.

Tarek brings experience working at Michelin Star kitchens - such as L’Escargot in London - and famously cooked for Tony Blair and US President George Bush while at the Dun Cow in Sedgefield in 2003. He is, of course, well known on Teesside for The Oven Restaurant on the corner of Southfield Road.
