Fancy spicing up your fish supper? New Teesside takeaway to offer twist on British favourite
A brand new eatery is combining two traditional dishes - fish and chips and Indian cuisine.
Batter and Spice opened in Coulby Newham last week and is already proving popular with lots of visitors tucking into their food. Owners Sharan and Avtar Sanghera, already run a number of popular fish and chip shops, including Golden Fry, Lealholm Crescent, in Ormesby and Saxons in Easington Road, Hartlepool, but decided their new venture would be something a little bit different.
Sharan said she was asked if she was interested in taking over the premises in Coulby Newham's Dalby Way and creating a takeaway for both Indian food and fish and chips was the idea of her older children.

The 45-year-old said: "They live in London and said they can get spicy chips there, but there is nothing like that in our area, so we thought why not combine the two."
She said they have started off with a limited menu, but they hope to grow it and try new things for customers, such as a spicy fish batter. Sharan said she and her husband have been in the food industry for 19 years and although it is hard work, she loves it.
She said: "It is just about having different ideas. It is food and you can be creative with it. We are very passionate about hygiene and producing good quality food."
The pair have already perfected their fish and chips, which they cook in the traditional way with beef dripping, and have brought on board Indian chefs to create the curry dishes, using fresh ingredients.
Sharan and Avtar took over the lease for the premises, which had been standing empty for some months, in July and have been months in the planning getting the shop ready to open Batter and Spice. Sharan said: "We just opened last week and the response from the customers so far has been great."
