Fans have been left "devastated" as Irish singer, Hozier, called off his headline set at Chepstow Summer Sessions just hours before he was due on stage - due to flooding at the venue.

The 34-year-old was set to perform at Chepstow Racecourse for the final night of the Summer Sessions there - but the show has been rained off, amid a thunderstorm warning from the Met Office covering the majority of Wales, and stretching along the west of England from Gloucester to Leeds, that is in place until midnight tonight.

The news was shared on the Chepstow Summer Sessions website, with the following statement: "The Hozier concert at Chepstow Summer Session at Chepstow Racecourse has regrettably been cancelled due to flooding on site.

"Making this decision was extremely difficult for us, especially knowing that many of you planned your travels around the tour schedule. Unfortunately, due to the persistent heavy rainfall, the ground conditions left us with no other option.

"Both the concert arena and car parks are waterlogged and flooded. Despite our efforts to pump out the water and take corrective measures, the ongoing rain has prevented these efforts from being successful.

"Despite best efforts, rescheduling was not possible at this time due to existing schedule commitments. We are deeply grateful for your support and sincerely apologise to the incredible Hozier community for the inconvenience and disappointment. Tickets will be refunded at point of purchase."

And Hozier himself took to Instagram at around midday on Tuesday, writing: "Absolutely gutted to hear that the show tonight for Chepstow Summer Sessions has had to be cancelled due to flooding conditions. My sincere apologies to everyone who had a ticket for this evening, especially those who have made travel arrangements.

"Refunds will be issued automatically by the promoter. There's nothing I can offer at this time beyond my sincere apologies and gratitude for your support. I hope we can do it again, Chepstow."

The singer has just one show left in the UK, scheduled for tomorrow night (Weds) in Glasgow, before he takes his tour to the USA.

And fans who had planned to see him in Chepstow this evening are understandably upset by the cancellation, with one ticketholder, who was travelling from Cornwall for the show, saying: "We're devastated, we've been looking forward to seeing him for months and now it's been cancelled last minute.

"I didn't get a text or anything, I checked my emails and don't have anything official. The message saying it had been cancelled was posted to his social media and on the Ticketmaster app, but we had already started the journey up.

"We even checked this morning to see when he was due to go on, and the organisers said nothing about the weather or possibility of cancelling.

"We don't want a refund, we would prefer the organisers try to add another date. It's not about the money, it's about going to see artists we love."
