Fans Recreate Iconic Serena Williams Twirl During Star's Possible Last US Open

Fans of tennis great Serena Williams are recreating the athlete’s iconic victory celebration as she plays in what will possibly be her last US Open.

Williams is known for waving to the crowd and doing a twirl on the court following a win.

Grand Slam officials have encouraged fans to recreate the move in honor of the 23-time Grand Slam champion, using the hashtag #TwirlForSerena.

Taylor Jones, a fan of Williams, said she filmed this video outside the US Open on Monday, August 29, where Williams defeated Danka Kovinic.

“Growing up, it meant so much to see black women be their true, authentic selves and break the mold,” Jones told Storyful. “She showed me what greatness could look like, which helped me to go out and find my own. I’ll miss watching her dominate on the courts, but I look forward to seeing her evolve.”

Williams hinted she is ready to leave the sport, telling Vogue in early August that she was “evolving away from tennis.” Credit: Taylor N Jones via Storyful
