He has every reason to be triumphant as his political dream finally becomes reality.

And now Nigel Farage wants June 23 to go down in history and is calling for the day to be made a public bank holiday.

The UKIP leader said the date should be celebrated every year with a day off.

June 23, will ‘go down in our history as our independence day’, said the triumphant Eurosceptic.

And he also believes there could be other countries about ‘celebrate’ their own independence day from the European Union very soon, reported the Sunderland Echo newspaper.

‘An opinion poll in the Netherlands said that a majority there now want to leave, so we may well be close perhaps to Nexit,’ he said.

‘Similarly in Denmark a majority there are in favour of leaving so we could be quite close to Dexit. And I’m told the same may apply to Sweden and perhaps Austria and perhaps even Italy too.

‘The EU is failing, the EU is dying, I hope that we’ve got the first brick out of the wall.’
