While Fast and Furious producer Neal Moritz may have signalled the series will end following the tenth instalment, Universal Studios are busy figuring out potential spin-offs.
According to Deadline, Fate of the Furious standouts Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Jason Statham could team-up for a potential buddy-cop movie.
Both characters began life as antagonists to Vin Diesel’s character’s famed family, but gradually became allies with the crew. Together, The Rock and Statham shared a brilliant chemistry throughout the latest instalment, something noted by multiple critics.
Whether the spin-off will actually happen remains to be seen. Regular writer Chris Morgan — who has penned the last six instalments — is said to be busy discussing ideas for the screenplay, which could reach cinemas before the upcoming ninth film.
Nothing has been settled, Morgan yet to put pen to paper, but with Fate of the Furious having stormed past $700 million at the box-office, any chance to milk this franchise will likely be taken.
At the moment, another two Fast and Furious films have been confirmed, the final of which will complete the long-running, diesel fuelled series.
