Fast-Moving Central Point Fire Prompts Evacuations of Homes, Businesses in Oregon

A fast-moving grass fire in Central Point, Oregon, damaged properties, caused evacuations and road closures on Tuesday, July 17.

The evacuations were conducted at several homes, an assisted living facility and businesses in Central Point, near Medford, reports said.

Customers also reportedly evacuated the Costco store between Central Point and Medford.

The Medford Police Department said no people or animals were injured in the fire, but there was “plenty of property damage.”

The wildfire, which started near the Jackson County Expo and the Rogue Valley Family Fun Center along the Bear Creek Greenway, burned 50 acres of land at around 5 pm, said the Oregon Department of Forestry Southwest Oregon District. Credit: Courtney Thompson via Storyful
