Police have appealed for witnesses after a pedestrian in his 70s died following a crash in Watford.

A sea of emergency services swarmed the A405 North Orbital Road junction with Bucknalls Lane after the collision involving a black Toyota Yaris on Friday evening.

Footage seen by the Watford Observer shows numerous police cars and ambulances around a taped-off stretch, with officers searching a nearby wooded area.

The pedestrian, a man in his 70s, died at the scene while the Yaris driver, a woman in her 20s, was not injured.

A Herts Police spokesperson confirmed the vehicle and driver both remained at the scene.

Sniffer dogs were deployed over initial concerns a second injured person was not accounted for, but that proved not to be the case, they added.

The huge emergency services response sparked speculation online of more than a collision – but that has now been confirmed not to be the case.

No arrests have been made at this time, the spokesperson added.

Following the crash at around 5.50pm, Sergeant Chris Whales, from the Beds, Cambs and Herts Road Policing Unit, said: “I would like to appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and who saw the collision or who has any dashcam footage which may assist our investigation to please contact me.”

It can be reported online or via 101 quoting ISR 613 of 2 December.
