Fatboy Slim takes Reading Festival by storm as Queens of the Stone Age delight with secret set

Fatboy Slim celebrated acid house with a modern twist at Reading Festival on Friday night, stealing crowds from the main stage and NME/Radio One area.

The buzz in the Radio One dance tent was immeasurable on the first night of the weekend thanks to the legendary DJ – aka Norman Cook – feeding thousands of house music lovers a rave extravaganza.

The 53-year-old DJ mixed fan-favourite tracks ‘Eat Sleep Rave Repeat’ and ‘Renegrade Master’ with current electronic music samples and mash-ups and was on top form, reminding Reading Festival goers how lucky they were to hear the Brit Award winner in action, especially when he played hits ‘Praise You’ and ‘Right Here, Right Now’.

Fatboy Slim’s set was accompanied by a visual treat that included black and white mugshots of celebrities such as Bryan Cranston, Prince, Tom Selleck, Amy Adams and Norman himself, smiling and dancing to the music.

Elsewhere, people rushed to see Queens of the Stone Age, who were announced as Reading and Leeds secret act earlier this week. The American rockers played in the NME/Radio One tent and treated delighted fans to hits from their latest LP ‘Villains’, which dropped this weekend.

Rumours had been circling for a while that Josh Homme and his band were heading to the UK, and they join an impressive lineup with the likes of Kasabian – who headlined on Friday night – Liam Gallagher, Muse, Eminem, Major Lazer, Korn, PVRIS, Bastille, Charli XCX, Halsey and Haim.
