Better brush off your best ballroom attire... Pose has been renewed for a third season.

FX confirmed the news just a week after the LGBTQ+ drama's second season opener pulled in its biggest audience yet, having been watched by an estimated 1.2 million viewers in the US. The episode outperformed the season one premiere – which aired in June 2018 – by 7% (via The Wrap).

"Pose has elevated our culture and the TV landscape like few shows before it, and we are honoured to partner with co-creators Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Steven Canals on a third season," FX Networks and FX Productions chairman John Landgraf said of the early renewal.

"Our thanks to the entire creative team, including Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Alexis Martin Woodall, Sherry Marsh, Janet Mock, Our Lady J, Erica Kay, the amazing cast and crew and everyone at Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions for this incredibly entertaining, enlightening and groundbreaking series."

Created by Steven Canals and American Horror Story showrunners Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, Pose explores New York City's gender-nonconforming ball culture scene in the late 1980s, where attendees can watch, walk or dance in themed outfit-based categories to win titles, trophies and prizes.

It centres more specifically on Blanca Rodriguez-Evangelista (Mj Rodriguez), a young transgender woman who – after being diagnosed with HIV – decides to abandon the House of Abundance in order to start her own House and compete to overthrow Elektra Ferocity (Dominique Jackson) as the queen of the ballroom.

As she tries to make it on her own, Blanca befriends aspiring ballet dancer Damon Richards (Ryan Jamaal Swain) and sex worker Angel (Indya Moore), and the trio group together to form the House of Evangelista and compete in the underground events.

Boasting the largest trans cast in history, the show is led by Mj Rodriguez, Indya Moore, Ryan Jamaal Swain, Dominique Jackson and Billy Porter. AHS alumni Kate Mara and Evan Peters also star.

Pose continues in the US on Wednesdays at 10pm on FX. Season two is expected to air in the UK on BBC Two.
