A father who was racing at more than 100mph on a motorway before a crash which killed his three-year-old son has been convicted of causing death by dangerous driving.

Israr Muhammed’s wife and daughter were also severely injured in the crash on the M62 in July 2018 when his Honda Civic went down an embankment, Humberside Police said.

The 41-year-old from Batley, West Yorkshire, was racing with another Civic driver, Adam Molloy, 29, from Normanton.

The pair were convicted following a trial at Hull Crown Court last week, police said.

Humberside Police’s Serious Collisions Unit carried out an extensive investigation and established that Muhammed had been racing with Molloy.

Using dashcam footage from an independent witness, their two vehicles were calculated to be travelling in excess of 100mph at less than 10 metres apart before one car suffered a catastrophic blow out, causing it to leave the carriageway.

The crash killed Muhammed’s son, and the driver’s seven year-old daughter suffered serious and life-changing facial injuries.

Their mother suffered multiple head and internal injuries and was in a coma for more than a month, the force said.

Muhammed was charged with causing death by dangerous driving, two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and causing death whilst uninsured.

Molloy failed to stop at the scene of the collision but was subsequently arrested and charged with causing death by dangerous driving and two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

They were convicted of all counts following a nine-day trial and will be sentenced on November 2.
