How Fatman Scoop once stunned Newcastle passengers with star turn on Jet2 flight to Ibiza

There was some sad news from the entertainment world on Saturday, when it was announced that musician and rapper Fatman Scoop had died at the age of 53.

The American star, real name Isaac Freeman III, best known the world over for his mammoth 20034 hit Be Faithful was performing at a gig in Connecticut on Friday night, when he collapsed on stage. A video shared online saw him addressing a packed crowd, before struggling to the back of the stage and then going to the ground behind a DJ box, as his colleagues attempted to calm down the concerned audience

His death was confirmed by a family member on Saturday afternoon, in a statement which read: ""Last night, the world lost a radiant soul, a beacon of light on the stage and in life Fatman Scoop was not just a world class performer, he was a father, brother, uncle and a friend."

The tribute added: "He was the laughter in our lives, a constant source of support, unwavering strength, and courage. FatMan Scoop was known to the world as the undisputed voice of the club. His much made us dance and embrace life with positivity. His joy was infectious and the generosity he extended to all will be deeply missed but never forgotten."

It was back in September 2016 that passengers on a flight from Newcastle to Ibiza got a surprise cameo from Fatman Scoop, when he got on the tanoy on the Jet2 plane in question and started addressing everyone in their seats, shouting: "All my Geordies make some noise”. as well as, taking inspiration from number 1 Be Faithful, by telling the holidaymakers to put their hands up if they “loved Jet2" and then adding: "If you're ready to party in Ibiza make some noise!"

Fatman Scoop was believed to have been heading over to Ibiza for a gig, having performed in Newcastle, a place he is no stranger to, having performed at various events over the years, including Noughty 90s Festival and Bongo's Bingo at Boiler Shop on numerous occasions. Paying their own tribute on Instagram, Bongos wrote: "Rest in peace to one of the greats, @fatmanscoop. A true fan favourite at Bongo’s Bingo with 18 unforgettable show appearances since 2015.
