FBI Will Help To Unlock Another iPhone In Murder Case

The FBI has offered to help a local police force unlock another iPhone following its success in finally cracking into the handset owned by one of the San Bernadino killers.

Federal agents were finally able to access the phone without help from Apple, following a lengthy legal stand-off with the Cupertino-based tech brand.

The FBI has now agreed to assist Arkansas police to access an iphone and an iPod belonging to two teenagers accused of killing a couple, says Associated Press.

The homicide case has been postponed in order for the prosecution team to get help from the FBI.

Hunter Drexler, 18, and Justin Staton, 15, are accused of killing Robert and Patricia Cogdell at their home in Conway, Arkansas in July 2015.

Apple has assisted law enforcement in the past but CEO Tim Cook drew a line when it came to cracking the company’s own encryption software in the San Bernadino case.

Syed Farook and his wife Tashfeen Malik were shot dead after killing 14 people in San Bernadino in California in December 2015.

The FBI wanted to access the handset belong to Farook as the enforcement agency believed that it could hold useful information. Apple refused its request for help.

Apple argued that enabling this kind of access to iPhones could put Apple devices at risk of hackers.
