Warning: Contains spoilers for Fear the Walking Dead season four.

Fear the Walking Dead had a big shake-up coming into season four as it changed locations and threw in a time-jump for good measure.

The season three finale ended in dramatic fashion as Nick blew up the dam to save Madison and Alicia from the Proctors, leaving a few characters' fates up in the air. Season four hasn't yet resolved all of the unanswered season three questions – and it's delivered a few more questions of its own.

As we head nearer to the midseason finale, we've rounded up the big questions that we still need answering and offer a few solutions of our own.

1. Where is Daniel Salazar?

The last time we saw Daniel Salazar was at the top of the dam with Nick and we know Nick survived the explosion, so we were pretty confident that Daniel did too, even though Blades is no longer credited as a series regular.

Our theory proved right as co-showrunner Andrew Chambliss confirmed later on that Daniel is "alive and out there". "The details surrounding that are something that we're still keeping under wraps," he teased. And it's still under wraps six episodes into season four, with no indication of what's happened to Daniel after the dam explosion, although we do know what happened to most of the rest.

But if you're wondering why Daniel takes these long breaks from the show, it's all because of Rubén Blades being a successful musician in real life.

2. What happened to Madison at the Diamond?

Fans noticed something worrying about Madison's appearances in season four pretty early on as we saw plenty of her in the past timeline, but absolutely nothing of her in the present-day timeline with Strand, Nick, Luciana and Alicia.

The showrunners haven't ruled out the fan theory that Madison has died at some point in between the two timelines and neither will Kim Dickens, so it's left us speculating just what happened to her at the Dell Diamond, the abandoned baseball stadium where she's been working to set up a new community.

Episode two saw the ominous arrival of the Vultures at the Diamond, but the sixth episode revealed that they decided to leave after Madison, Strand and Naomi were successful in bringing back a huge amount of supplies. So while we're not ruling out the Vultures being responsible for whatever happened to Madison, it's looking less likely.

3. Is Proctor John still alive?

Proctor John was the Big Bad of the final episodes of season three and was last seen fleeing the dam as it was blown up, but we've no clear idea if he managed to survive the explosion and haven't seen him in season four.

That won't change either as co-showrunner Andrew Goldberg has confirmed that Proctor John is "not part of season four". However, that's not confirmation that he is dead and since he was planning to open up a trade route which includes Houston, Texas, perhaps we will be seeing him again in the show, just not anytime soon.

4. Will we see Qaletaqa and Crazy Dog again?

Talking of characters we haven't seen since the season three finale, Native American enemies-turned-allies Qaletaqa and Crazy Dog were last spotted leaving the dam after helping Nick out against the Proctors.

Given the change in location, we can't imagine the two will crop up again in season four, but since they're not dead, we can't rule it out entirely.

5. Where has Luciana been?

We're pleased to see Luciana back in the fold in season four, even if it has been at the cost of some heartbreak for her (RIP Nick), but we're still none the wiser how she managed to meet up with the group again.

Before season four, the last time we saw her was when she decided to leave the Otto ranch after Troy tried to kill her in the fifth episode of season three. Yet in episode six, it was revealed that Nick went out and found her after the dam explosion. How? We don't know yet.

6. Is Naomi working with the Vultures?

The fourth episode of season four delivered the reveal that John's girlfriend Laura is actually Naomi, who we have already seen at the Diamond in the past timeline. Any hope of a reunion was then seemingly dashed by Luciana.

"Naomi didn't make it out... the stadium... things went wrong," Luciana explained, with Alicia adding that "she's dead". At the time, we thought it was a bit suspicious – and potentially was Alicia lying to get John to join their vengeance quest against the Vultures.

However, the shocking climax to episode six revealed that Naomi was still alive and what's more, she seemed to have aligned herself with the Vultures. We didn't get any answers as to what happened at the Diamond to lead to this though as Alicia quickly tried to shoot her and hit John Dorie instead.

7. What happened at the Diamond?

Like with Madison's fate, we don't really know what happened at the Diamond that eventually led to Alicia, Nick, Strand and Luciana holding Morgan, John and Al at gunpoint at the end of the first episode in the present-day timeline.

As we mentioned before, the sixth episode revealed that the Vultures left their intimidating position outside the Diamond, but we're not ruling out that they came back and were responsible for the Diamond falling.

But since we haven't seen anything of the Diamond in the present-day timeline, there's a possibility that it still exists and is thriving with Madison still there and, for some reason, the four of them had to leave. All we know is that Luciana believes that "there was one day when we could have stopped all of this from happening", referring to Nick's death and their current situation, and that day was the day they all decided to stick around.

"They were in a great settlement. They were thriving, so we know something bad happened, and we know that it involved those Vultures that show up in the parking lot at the end of 402," Goldberg teased.

Fear the Walking Dead airs on AMC in the US and on AMC on BT TV in the UK.
