Yahoo News Fear TWD season 4 adds extra mystery to Madison's fate
Warning: Contains spoilers for Fear the Walking Dead season 4 episode 6 'Just In Case'.
Fear the Walking Dead might have cleared up what happened after the dam explosion in the season three finale, but it just piled more mystery on Madison's fate.
Season four has shown plenty of Madison in the past timeline as she sets up the new community at the Diamond, but we've still seen no sign of her in the present-day timeline six episodes in, leading fans to worry that she's died at some point in between the two timelines, which the showrunners haven't ruled out.
We're about to head into spoiler territory for 'Just In Case', which aired last night (May 20) in the US, so be warned.
The arrival at the Diamond of the Vultures in episode two led most to assume that it was somehow their fault that the community failed and Strand, Luciana, Nick and Alicia had to take to the road where they eventually ran into Morgan.
However, it has now been revealed that the Vultures left their intimidating position outside the Diamond after Madison, Strand and Naomi were successful in bringing back a huge amount of supplies, including seeds, food and medical supplies. (Special shout out here to Jenna Elfman for Naomi's incredible monologue about how her daughter was responsible for the downfall of an entire community at the FEMA shelter.)
"It'll take longer than we can wait," Vultures leader Mel tells his group as they pack up to leave, adding to Madison: "Be careful Madison. In my experience, the really bad stuff, [you] never see it coming."
So while we're not ruling out that the Vultures came back and were still responsible for the Diamond's downfall, this bit of foreshadowing hints that maybe the danger came from someone Madison trusted. Of course, there's also the possibility that Madison is still at the Diamond and it was her who kicked Alicia, Strand, Nick and Luciana out, or Madison did something that made them choose to leave.
Following Naomi's chat about the teacher at the FEMA shelter that made sure all the survivors there were prepared for the outside with JIC ("Just In Case") lessons, we saw Madison tell Alicia back at the Diamond to stock the Land Rover with supplies and "keep it quiet". Alicia looked to have concerns over the plan ("I don't think they're coming back"), so maybe Madison's behaviour to protect the Diamond changed for the worst.
The next time we see the Land Rover is in the present-day timeline and none other than Naomi gets out of it, clearly on the Vultures side – we don't want to say we told you so, but we did – and it appeared that Luciana, Strand and Alicia weren't aware of Naomi's connection to the Vultures. We're barely given time to enjoy Naomi and John Dorie's reunion before Alicia goes to shoot Naomi and hits John square in the chest instead in a shock cliffhanger.
Unless it's just general pent-up rage, Alicia is NOT happy with Naomi so it could be that Naomi did something to Madison back at the Diamond or Madison was last seen with the Land Rover and Alicia assumes she did something to Madison.
Whatever has happened, with two episodes left before the midseason finale, we hope we don't have too long to find out just where Madison is.
