A popular food festival is on course to enjoy another successful outing as it prepares for its return to the coast this weekend.

The two-day Feast by the Sea will be back in Whitley Bay for its third serving of the summer and it is promising a mouth-watering array of food and drink. Local producers will be setting up stalls on the Spanish City Plaza and among the traders taking part will be Truly Madly Pizza; Hatch 76; Fat Hippo; Geordie Bangers and Olive Coffee Company.

The event is part of the NorthFeast Proper Food and Drink Festivals which local organisers Mark and Shelley Deakin have been hosting around the region for more than 10 years. They attract thousands of visitors and this weekend is set to be no exception, with the location proving a perfect opportunity for families to combine a visit with a trip to the beach.

This weekend's event follows the cancellation of one that had been due to take place in Northumberland. The Cramlington Feast was initially planned for the September 7-8 weekend in the town's Seven Oaks Park which Mark says has proved problematic in the past due to rain turning the ground to mud.

So, following more uncertainties with the weather, they did not want to risk it again. But it's been full steam ahead with their August 17-18 plans.

The hardstanding of the Whitley Bay Plaza always makes an ideal setting for festivals, says Mark.

"We've been holding them there for eight to nine years now - three a year - and they're really well received," he said. "It's a good spot, perfect for events."

Feast by the Sea will run there from 11am until 6pm on both days. Its menu will also include eastern flavours from Little Somboon Kitchen; street food from The Greekster; Indian-style tastes from Happy's Dhaba; Mexican mixes from Truly Torta; Sri Lankan dishes from Kolamba; BBQ from Smokiedokies and savouries from Cassie's Kitchen which is known for such favourites as gourmet Scotch eggs.

And sweet treats will be served up by the likes of Deli Churros; Choco Berries; Simply Cheesecake; The Brownie Bar and The Dales Fudge Co. with ice cream additions coming from Sprinkles ice cream. Another of the Deakins' upcoming food events will be the Great North Feast in the Park which will take place at Bents Park in South Shields on the August 24-26 bank holiday weekend.
