Featherstone Rovers plot Dewsbury Rams triple raid including Super League-tracked youngster

Featherstone Rovers are plotting a triple swoop of Championship neighbours Dewsbury Rams. Rugby League Live understands the Championship side, who have recently been bolstered by fresh investment, have set their sights on three key players at the Rams heading into next season.

Those players are Bailey O'Connor, James Beckett and Calum Turner, with Rovers confident of securing their services moving forward. Their move for O'Connor is particularly eye-catching, with Rugby League Live aware of at least two Super League clubs who have watched the back this year. Predominantly a centre, the 22-year-old can also play fullback.

He has enjoyed an impressive rise in his career, joining the Rams from Lock Lane last year and scoring eight tries in 17 appearances as they secured promotion to the Championship.

Beckett, 28, has amassed plenty of experience during his career, making over 100 appearances. He is someone who Featherstone are familiar with, having had previous, albeit brief, spells at the club. However, he has carved out an impressive reputation during four seasons with the Rams and had attracted interest from elsewhere.

Turner is another player well-known to Featherstone, having played for the club eight times in 2019. A product of Castleford Tigers, the playmaker played for Newcastle Thunder in 2021 but has spent the last three seasons at Dewsbury, making 41 appearances.

Last week, Featherstone announced that Paddy Handley had joined the board, which has seen fresh investment into the club, which has facilitated Rovers to make some plans on and off the field moving forward. James Ford's side are currently fourth in the Championship having won six of their opening four games this season.
