Federal team on way to Tenn. plant explosion site

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A special investigative team of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is on its way to Tennessee after an ammunition plant explosion.

ATF spokesman Michael Knight said local officials were working Thursday to clear the area around the plant of any live ammunition to bring in heavy equipment and stabilize the walls. Once the building is stabilized, the ATF's National Response Team will begin its investigation.

The blast at the Rio Ammunition plant in McEwen, about 55 miles west of Nashville, occurred Wednesday afternoon. It killed Rodney Edwards and critically injured Joey Clark, who was being treated at Vanderbilt University Medical Center on Thursday. A woman whom authorities have not yet publicly identified was in stable condition, and another man was discharged.
