Liverpool's first match after the closure of the summer transfer window sees them face Manchester United. The Reds will take on their bitter rivals at Old Trafford on Sunday looking to maintain their 100 per cent start to the season.

New head coach Arne Slot has begun his reign at Anfield with victories over Ipswich Town and Brentford. Slot will now get his first taste of the rivalry between Liverpool and United when he steps onto the touchline on Sunday afternoon.

The fixture sees Liverpool take to the pitch for the first time since the summer transfer window closes. The Reds had a relatively quiet window in terms of new signings with only two deals confirmed.

The second of those deals was the £10 million (plus £2.5m in add-ons) signing of Federico Chiesa from Juventus. Liverpool confirmed the signing of the Italy international on Thursday, more than 24 hours before the transfer window closed.

Liverpool registered Chiesa to their squad in time to feature against Man United on Sunday, should Slot decide to call on the forward. However, the Reds boss explained in his latest press conference that he does not expect Chiesa to be involved in the fixture at Old Trafford.

"We should take care of him in the beginning," Slot told reporters on Friday. "He hasn't played many game minutes yet. We have very good performance staff so we will build him up in the right way and hopefully we can see his quality in the near future.

"He is going to train with us today but there is a bigger chance that he isn't involved than he is. But if injuries come up in the next two days then we might need him. I don't expect him to be in but I can't guarantee it."

Should Chiesa not feature against Man United, as expected, then Liverpool will hope the forward will be involved in their next fixture. The international will be in full swing next week, meaning Chiesa may have to wait until September 14 against Nottingham Forest to make his Liverpool debut.
