Federico Chiesa sets record straight on Juventus exit and contract offer after Liverpool transfer
Federico Chiesa has set the record straight on his Juventus exit after joining Liverpool in an initial £10m deal. The Reds have signed the Italy international in a cut-price swoop after he was deemed surplus to requirements in Turin.
The 26-year-old had a year left on his Juventus contract, but new manager Thiago Motta had made it clear that the forward was not part of his plans.
It had been suggested that Chiesa’s wage demands had ultimately led to the Serie A giants taking such a stance when it came to the Italian’s future. However, he has strongly dismissed such claims after completing his move to Liverpool.
Ahead of his transfer being officially announced, Chiesa took to Instagram to send an emotional message of thanks to Juventus supporters.
But the Italian also took the opportunity to set the record straight regarding his contract status and wage demands, insisting that he had never received any offer of an extension from the Italian outfit and it had been made clear to him that he was no longer wanted by the club.
“It’s time to end this journey with you, black and white fans,” Chiesa wrote. “I would like to dedicate a few words to thank you for the great affection you have always shown me, affection that I will always carry in my heart.
“I have grown with you and with Juventus, both as a man and as a football player. You have supported me in good times and in difficult times, and for this I will always be grateful to you.
“Over the past four years I have had the opportunity to work with players, staff and coaches of the highest level.
“You have been like a family to me and, even in the most complicated moments, you have helped me get back up. I will always carry with me the joyful memories that we shared.
“Now, while saying goodbye, I would like to clarify the issue of the renewal. I have never received any offer of renewal from Juventus and, consequently, there has never been a request from me or my entourage regarding an increase or a reduction in my salary.
“I was informed that I would not be part of the project even before the start of training with the team.
“I thank you once again for your constant support. Thank you, Juventus. Until the end.”
Chiesa will wear the number 14 jersey at Liverpool and could make his debut for Arne Slot's men away at Manchester United on Sunday.
