Two female TV hosts have been praised for their bravery after weighing themselves on live television.

Jenna Bush Hager – the daughter of former US President George W. Bush – and Hoda Kotb are the co-hosts of US morning news show Today with Hoda & Jenna.

On Monday morning, the duo weighed themselves in front of millions of viewers on live television. This coincided with the first day of them jointly starting a type of intermittent fasting diet known as the 16:8 diet, where you don’t eat solid foods for 16 hours a day.

For the weigh-in, they removed their shoes and stepped on pairs of scales placed side by side.

At one point, they switch scales to check they were working accurately.

“Okay, I haven’t done this in a long time,” said Bush Hager, adding, “It’ll be fine.”

According to the scales, Kotb’s weight was 158 pounds while Bush Hager weighed in at 171 pounds.

An image of the weigh-in was shared on the show’s official Instagram page, and the women received a huge amount of praise from users – who said the women acted in a way which was “brave” and that the clip made them feel “normal”.

“Your bravery is to be not only applauded and so brave. You ladies ROCK,” was one response.

Another user wrote, “Love y’all!! This makes me so happy to see that you are real like the rest of us!”

“So love this! Thanking for making us feel more normal with our weight,” read a third comment.

Using scales daily is a useful method to prevent you from gaining weight, according to the results of a study released earlier this year.

But while for some stepping on the scales serves a vital role in weight management others are against the idea of regular weigh-ins.

In an interview in 2017, actor Kate Winslet attributed her body confidence to shunning the scales.

I don’t know how much I weigh. I haven’t weighed myself in 12 years – top tip,” she told The Sun.
