Fender Mustang GT 40 - review

The Mustang GT 40: Fender
The Mustang GT 40: Fender

This year Fender added an update to its popular Mustang series with the GT: its first amps to include Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

Considering it’s one of the most respected and recognised brands in music, it was only right that Fender worked out what guitarists were looking for in a modern amp.

We took the smaller and most affordable model - the Mustang GT 40 - home for a spin. Lightweight and with a useful handle on the top, it’s a smart look with black control display and Fender’s instantly-recognisable badge.

Thanks to its Bluetooth capability you can connect your phone instantly, while the Wi-Fi connection means it’s relatively fuss-free when it comes to downloading presets (you start out with 100) and updates. The core sounds include British models alongside the Fender tweed era and other classics.

When you want to stream music, you’re offered support for “setlists” (a sweet gimmick) and the ability to add effect trails which smooth the transition between presets.

The simple control panel means you get used to playing around with it remarkably quickly. With its impressively low price (RRP £205), multi-purpose approach and enough versatility to keep experienced guitar players happy, it’s a game-changer.
