When it comes to summer beauty, in my opinion less really is more. Not only is it easier to keep your makeup from melting in the heat when you stick with a more minimal routine, it's also a time-saver.

That's why I was so excited when I saw that Fenty Beauty had recently come out with a lip stain for a stunning low-maintenance look. Available in four summery shades, the Poutsicle Hydrating Lip Stain has become a staple in my everyday beauty routine.

After selling out almost immediately following its initial release, you'll want to get your hands on it before it's gone again.

This lip stain has a unique texture that starts out with a glossy finish, but dries down to leave behind a sheer flush of matte colour on the lips. Unlike glosses or lipsticks, its lightweight formula also isn't sticky or heavy-feeling on the lips.

To apply, simply swipe on a coat of the lip stain with the pointed doe-foot applicator, which easily fits along the Cupid's bow and corners of the mouth. Since it does have a sheer finish, you can choose to wear a single coat of this lip stain or build it up for more impact.

First impressions

I was able to try out this lip stain in Mai Type, a vibrant pink shade, as well as in Strawberry Sangria, a sheer red. I was instantly a fan of the lightweight finish that didn't leave my lips feeling dry, and the unique gloss to tint effect.

Fenty Beauty's Poutsicle Hydrating Lip Stain in Mai Type starts out glossy and fades to a sheer lip stain.

While the gloss effect doesn't last for very long, you're left with a sheer wash of colour that stays in place for hours. The stain does fade slowly over time (and does transfer a bit after eating and drinking), but the effect is still quite subtle — especially compared to how quickly a traditional lipstick wears off throughout the day.

What others are saying

Given the sellout status of the Poutsicle Hydrating Lip Stain, it's safe to say that Fenty Beauty's newest lip product is a hit among shoppers. So far it's earned a 4.5-star rating from hundreds of Sephora shoppers, with 91% of reviewers noting that they would recommend the product.

Many reviewers on social media have also documented the staying power of the lip stain, racking up millions of views on TikTok alone.

"This hydrating lip tint is way better than others I've tried! I love that it is not heavy on the lips, it looks very natural, but gives your lips colour," reads one Sephora review.

"I’m not too familiar with lip tints, so this was awesome as my first try. It is insanely long lasting and leaves such a pretty and bright, yet still natural colour," added another.

Some shoppers complained that the lip stain was not as long lasting as they had hoped, but the general consensus is that the lip stain lives up to the hype.

Final thoughts

After wearing the new Fenty Beauty lip stain through days of working from home, and even a a recent wedding, it's become one of my new favourite lip products for summer. The lightweight wash of colour truly makes your lips look like you've just been snacking on a popsicle — in the best way possible.

If you're planning to run out to Sephora to stock up Rihanna's latest beauty innovation, it's worth noting that the Fenty Beauty Poutsicle Hydrating Lip Stain has been selling out all summer, so you may have a hard time getting your hands on your preferred shade.

I'd recommend signing up for back in stock notifications on your favourite colours at Sephora, and also checking out the Fenty Beauty site for additional stock.
