It is understood the incident took place on May 25 and police Scotland are investigating.

The clip shows the gang crowd around the back of the van as it drops off shopping to homes. One of the group members can be seen slapping the side of the vehicle as another stands in front of it.

A local resident said: "One of the group leaped into the back of the van and something dropped on the ground."

Moments later the youth jumps from the back of the vehicle as the group flees. The van then drives away with the rear doors swinging open.

A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “Police attended an incident involving one of our delivery vans in Edinburgh last Saturday and we are supporting them with their investigation.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around Saturday, 25 May, 2024, officers received a report of a disturbance on Pennywell Gardens, Edinburgh. Officers attended and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
