Yahoo News Ferrari Re-signs Everyone's Favorite Driver
The Scuderia Ferrari Formula One team has renewed 2007 World Champion Kimi Raikkonen's contract for 2018. It's the Finn's fifth consecutive year with the Ferrari, and his eighth year with the Italian manufacturer overall.
Raikkonen first drove for Scuderia Ferrari in 2007 after a move from McLaren, winning the Championship that year and staying with the team until 2009. Amazingly, 2007 is the last time Ferrari won a driver's world championship. After a few brief stints in the WRC and NASCAR, the Iceman returned to F1 via Lotus, before eventually joining back up with Ferrari for the 2014 season, but hasn't won a race since 2013.
The 37-year old Finnish driver has four podium finishes to his name so far in 2017, but is frequently outperformed by his teammate, four-time champ Sebastian Vettel.
Ferrari has yet to close a deal with Vettel, whose contract is set to expire at the end of 2017. According to Motorsport, Raikkonen's deal likely means Vettel's contract is close to being finalized as well.
