Actor Will Ferrell is set to star in a new Netflix film based around the Eurovision Song Contest.

According to Deadline, the comedy is also written by the Anchorman actor alongside writer Andrew Steele.

In the past, Ferrell and Steele worked on Casa de mi Padre and the Lifetime parody A Deadly Adoption.

The 50-year-old actor was previously spotted at this year's Eurovision contest in Lisbon; Ferrell's Swedish wife first introduced him to the event back in 1999.

Eurovision's popularity has expanded across the world since its inception in 1956, with this year's contest reaching over 186m viewers.

Ferrell's Eurovision-inspired film will mark his second movie with Netflix; he produced the comedy Ibiza starring Gillian Jacobs which was released last month.

Since Netflix made a multi-picture deal with Adam Sandler, the streaming platform has been signing a plethora of top comedians to its roster including Chris Rock, Amy Schumer and Jerry Seinfeld.

Ferrell was most recently seen in the hit comedy Daddy's Home 2 and will star in Holmes and Watson - a comedic take on Arthur Conan Doyle's mystery series.

Amazon also recently bought a documentary series about the global economy from Ferrell and Anchorman director Adam McKay.

There is no release date set for Ferrell's Eurovision-inspired feature.
