The Inbetweeners might never be coming back, but we've got the next best thing, thanks to new movie The Festival from the show's creator Iain Morris and star Joe Thomas.

After the Channel 4 hit and its spin-off movies nailed all of the adolescent rites of passage, including lads' holidays and gap-year backpacking, this new spiritual sequel focuses on Simon Nick (Joe Thomas) going to his first festival.

Nick gets dumped by his girlfriend following his university graduation, which sounds very like Simon, he then has a meltdown in front of everyone, which also sounds like Simon and is convinced his life his over. Again. Simon.

Shane (Hammed Animashaun) then plots to cheer up his pal with three days at a music festival, where they're joined by "festival aficionado" Amy (Claudia O'Doherty).

Expect all the kind of classic gross-out gags that you loved from The Inbetweeners, including drunkenly pierced nipples and getting pissed on.

Speaking about the project previously, Ian Morris said: "I'm delighted to be making this film with my Inbetweeners partners Film4 and Entertainment.

"Going to a music festival is a quintessential British rite of passage just like a lads' holiday or backpacking, so it seemed like a natural fit for me to try and find the humour and fun in festivals."

Despite rumours of an Inbetweeners revival with the boys tackling parenthood, the other stars of the show, Blake Harrison, Simon Bird and James Buckley, have shut down hopes of a revival many, many times.

Harrison told Digital Spy: "I don't care whether they do it or not, if I'm honest. What I would say is that I'm sure that the four of us as actors are replaceable. What you can't replace is Damon Beesley and Iain Morris.

"Those guys, they wrote something really special, in that it just hit the right note at the right time... it was grotesque and funny, but also it had more than that.

"I think it's a smarter show than some people realise and that's down to them as writers and what they've created."

The Festival moshes into cinemas on August 17, 2018.
