Callum Hudson-Odoi fired Nottingham Forest to a vital 3-1 victory in their survival battle at Sheffield United. Hudson-Odoi produced two picture-book goals to help Forest overcome a dreadful start at Bramall Lane and register a first away win since Boxing Day.

The already-relegated Blades went ahead through Ben Brereton Diaz’s penalty before Hudson-Odoi’s double and Ryan Yates’ controversial goal saw Forest hit back to move three points clear of 18th-placed Luton with two games left.

Their situation at the foot of the table could look even rosier if an appeal against a four-point deduction for breaking financial rules is successful, with news expected next week.

If they were to get just one point back, that would effectively relegate Burnley due to Forest’s superior goal difference.

Reds fans were understandably delighted by the three points, but were not blind to their team’s failings in struggling during the first half and seeing old boy Brereton Diaz put the hosts ahead.

Here is what some of them have been saying on social media…

Will H: Absolutely huge!! An added bonus would be 1 or 2 points back please.

Neil MacLaren: Professional performance today. Sheffield United were there for the taking and we didn’t disappoint! Proud of our spirit and determination. COYR!

Henrik NFFC Johansen: Phew! We actually won a must-win game, and now we have a good chance of staying up, but it’s far from over! Thanks to Sels, Murillo, Yates and HOD. Made a difference today. Our defending as a team is laughable, and it was more poor Sheffield than awesome Forest.

Adrian Warren: Rubbish performance today and win 3-1. Excellent last week and lost 2-0. There are so many things wrong at the club, starting at the top with no CEO, but we look safe now. We desperately need to reset and rebuild in the summer so this does not happen again.

Cameron Clark: Can breathe ever so slightly better now. Man, this season has been stressful. I can hear the grey hairs coming through.

Scott Mc: Bit of luck on our side for once. All that counts is the score. Get in!

Matthew Grace: Much better second half. Please don’t play like we did first-half ever again.

Mark Rudd: Barring any surprises or shocks, #NFFC could effectively be safe before we kick off next Saturday evening at home to Chelsea, regardless of points being returned to us. Been another horrible season, and I suspect it is the last relegation scrap the owner will tolerate. Begin planning for next season.
