One of the highlights of the 2017 MTV Music Video Awards was the electrifying performance from Fifth Harmony, which included nothing less than rain, splits, and a shady “fifth figure” being yanked off stage. The women sat down with BUILD Series in New York City for an exclusive interview discussing the parts of their performance that you definitely didn’t see — including Dinah Jane’s ouch-inducing mishap during pre-show rehearsals (“I thought I’d fractured something!”) to Normani Kordei’s “whoops” moment onstage (which she cleverly covered up).

The quartet also talked about how special it was to perform with Gucci Mane on the single that won Best Pop Video that evening — as well as their appreciation for his collaboration with them overall. “The King of Trap and us…who would have thought?”

Fifth Harmony additionally spoke to fans about being compared to other artists, and how they feel there is room for everyone to succeed. “We are genuinely a family and I love that we’ve grown together,” noted Kordei. “Knowing that we are successful but that other artists can be successful…I think we can all be badass.”
