A star of the steamy blockbuster Fifty Shades of Grey who is filming a new horror movie in Cornwall has confessed she's struggling with the local accent . Marcia Gay Harden said she has been practising her Cornish accent for the role and has been finding it quite difficult to get right.

In a recent interview with CBS The Talk, the American actress teased her new movie but said she couldn’t reveal too much about it. She simply described it as being a “magical realism horror film” which is going to be “really fun”.

Since landing the role, Harden has been practising her Cornish accent every day but has struggled to get to grips with it due to the pronunciations of vowels, she claimed. She explained: "So, first of all, I've been having to practise this accent you know, and it's not an easy accent because it's Cornwall, so all the vowels are different.

“So I've been practising every day with this guy named Simon. And because we shoot in Cornwall, I can't tell you the name of the movie, but it's going to be really fun. And I can't tell you exactly what it’s about but I will tell you this, my kids said, 'Mom, why don't you do a movie that we'd like to see'... they're like, 'yeah, do something like a horror film or something'. The next day, I got an offer to do this horror film, sort of a magical realism horror film.

“Anyway, so I'm trying to do this accent all the time. And I get on the plane to come out there, and I say, 'Okay, thank you for my seat' [in accent] and the guy looks at me, and I say, 'I know, I sound so pretentious right now'." She added: "Everywhere I go I've been doing it, and it's not easy."

One resident in Cornwall said they understand Harden was seen filming near Lostwithiel yesterday (November 12) and crews are expected to be in Cornwall for the next four weeks.
