Fight Camp 3 preview: Undefeated Felix Cash aiming to prove he is a 'top operator' against Jason Wellborn

Undefeated Felix Cash headlines for the first time on Friday against former world title challenger Jason Wellborn,  aiming to prove that he is a top-level operator against former world title challenger Jason Wellborn.

Cash's defence of the Commonwealth middleweight championship is the top billing in the third round of fights at the Brentwood manor under promoter Eddie Hearn.

Hearn believes the match-ups on this latest episode of Fight Camp are the closest thus far to 50/50 and has warned Cash, the Tony Sims-trained fighter, that he must deliver on the big stage.

For Cash, it is time to deliver another powerful display. "Every time Wellborn goes up against a top operator he comes up short, and I believe I’m a top operator," explained Cash, 27, who has eight knockouts in his unblemished twelve-fight career to date."

"He might make it tough for a few rounds but I’ll get him in the end. I'm zoned in, ready to do some damage and retain my title.

"He’s been in with top names, have the experience over me, so I’ll have a look at him during the first couple of rounds and then go to work on him. I’m headlining for the first time and hopefully it won’t be the last. It’s a great platform for me to be on and a great show for me to put on a top performance and a clinical display."

Elsewhere on week three of Matchroom Fight Camp on Friday, recent Matchroom Boxing signing Zelfa Barrett (23-1, 14 KOs) - nephew of former world title challenger Pat Barrett - meets Ireland’s undefeated Eric Donovan (12-0, 7 KOs) for the IBF Intercontinental super-featherweight title, super-welterweight Kieron Conway (14-1-1, 3 KOs) takes on Navid Mansouri (20-3-2, 6 KOs) for the WBA Intercontinental title, and hard-hitting Super-Middleweight menace John Docherty (8-0, 6 KOs) takes on the tough and durable Anthony Fox (8-12-4).

In a women's bout, super-bantamweight Shannon Courtenay (5-0, 2 KOs) faces the toughest opponent of her career in Rachel Ball (5-1) in what was expected to be fast-rising Courtenay's toughest test to date.

Meanwhile, Hearn also stated he could extend use of the venue beyond August due to the coronavirus pandemic continuing to force events behind closed doors. Next week, Fight Camp culminates with a major gamble when heavyweight Dillian Whyte faces the Russian Alexander Povetkin, and Katie Taylor rematches Delfine Persoon in an undisputed lightweight contest, in boxing's first pay per view event to be staged behind closed doors.
