Shoppers were left horrified when a brawl reportedly broke out in the egg aisle of a Tesco superstore during the two-minute silence on Remembrance Sunday.

Witnesses described hearing screaming and shouting at the Eston Cleveland Extra store in Middlesbrough while the silence was marked on Sunday morning.

It came as the nation fell silent in tribute to fallen military personnel, with The Queen, Prince Charles and Prince William all paying their respects at the Cenotaph in central London.

Teesside Live reported that the brawl was believed to have erupted in the egg aisle after one woman was told to be quiet.

The row escalated and witnesses described seeing smashed eggs all over the floor.

Police were reportedly called to the commotion, with Tesco thanking them for their “swift assistance”.

One shopper told Teesside Live: “We were all stood still, observing the two minutes’ silence when we heard lots of screaming and shouting.”

He said staff were seen running towards the egg aisle, adding: “I asked someone what was going on and they said a woman had asked another woman to stop talking through the silence and the next minute they were fighting with each other.”

A Tesco spokesperson said: “We would like to thank the police for their swift assistance following an incident in our Eston Cleveland Extra this morning.”
