IS Fighters Cornered After Losing Territory in Western Mosul, Local Reports Say

Following advances by Iraqi forces in western Mosul Islamic State fighters were pushed back to a few remaining neighborhoods including Old Mosul, Zanjily, Shifaa and Suha, Iraqi media reported on May 21, citing a military commander.

Iraqi forces “completely” captured the Tamuz 17 neighborhood, ending IS control on Mosul’s northeast side, according to Iraqi media.

These videos were shared by Iraqi Federal Police. The first one is described as showing Iraqi forces evacuating trapped families from Tamuz 17 to camps for displaced people. The second video is described as showing forces investigating buildings abandoned by IS. The third video shows a number of improvised armoured vehicles and the description says a number of car bombs were dismantled during their advance. Credit: Facebook/Iraqi Federal Police via Storyful
