Final UK Evacuation Flights Leave Sudan After Almost 2,000 People Airlifted to Safety

The UK’s final evacuation flights from Sudan left Wadi Seidna Air Base on Saturday, April 29, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) said, after almost 2,000 people were airlifted to safety since the start of the conflict.

Footage released by the Ministry of Defence on Saturday shows passengers being processed for a flight at Wadi Seidna Air Base. The ministry did not specify whether this footage shows the final flight or an earlier departure on the same date.

The FCDO said on Saturday that the last UK evacuation flight would leave Wadi Seidna Air Base that evening, citing a decline in demand from British nationals and the volatility of the situation in Sudan, where ceasefires have repeatedly been broken.

1,888 British nationals and dependents have been airlifted from Sudan since the start of the conflict, the FCDO said. The ministry will continue to support remaining British nationals from Port Sudan, the statement added. Credit: Ministry of Defence via Storyful
