It's official: Take That will be releasing a Greatest Hits album later this year and will then launch a world tour.

There has been talk of a celebration of the band's 30th anniversary for months now, with the band publicly expressing hopes of getting ex-band members Robbie Williams and Jason Orange involved somehow.

While it's still not clear if those two will be rejoining Take That any time soon, Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen had some exciting news on The One Show when Alex Jones asked the trio if a Greatest Hits compilation and tour really were in the offing.

"It is a yes to both," Gary confirmed. "We're planning a world tour next year."

"We're recreating some of the songs for the Greatest Hits," Howard Donald chimed in. "We've got three new songs that we're going to put on the Greatest Hits. We want to go to all of the territories that we've never been to before, like South America."

Gary was also quick to assure fans that Take That aren't planning to completely revamp the hits that fans have been singing for decades now.

"We've reimagined some of the songs, but not all of them," he explained. "You've got to be careful with these things. If you take them too far, you're destroying people's memories.

"We've tried to be respectful to the music, but just putting a load of music on an album wasn't enough for us. We wanted to just go back and have a look through it, and try to make it sound better."

Before the trio hit the road together again, Gary Barlow will be stepping out for his own solo trek, starting in Edinburgh next month. Their stage musical The Band is also touring the UK this spring.

Alex Jones said on The One Show on Monday that Take That's Greatest Hits album is likely to be released this Christmas.
