Finsbury Park station: Two men rushed to hospital with suspected knife wounds after altercation during Arsenal match

Two young men have been taken to hospital with suspected knife wounds after fight broke out near to Finsbury Park station.

Police and London Ambulance Service were called to the scene at 7.16pm.

Both men had made their way into separate commercial premises nearby to seek assistance.

They were treated by medics before being taken to east London hospital.

It came as Arsenal were playing BATE Borisov on Thursday.

Their conditions are not yet known.

A statement from Scotland Yard read: "At 1916hrs on Thursday, 21 February, police were called to reports of an altercation involving a group of males close to Finsbury Park Station.

"Officers and London Ambulance Service attended.

"Two males, aged 20s, had sustained what are believed to be knife injuries. Both males had made their way into separate commercial premises nearby to seek assistance."

According to people attending the Arsenal football match, fans were told to avoid Finsbury Park due to “an incident.”

It comes as the Piccadilly line suffered severe overcrowding due to the Arsenal match which coincided with London’s rush hour.

Holloway Station remains closed due to crowd control.

Fans were urged to use alternative stations including Highbury and Islington and Caledonian Road.

Andy Hull, Labour councillor for Highbury West wrote on Twitter: “Concerned to learn reports of a stabbing around Finsbury Park station this evening. Islington Borough Council colleagues are liaising closely with MPS Islington.”
