Firefighters rushed to the scene of blaze at an encampment set up by homeless people in Castle Park after a fire broke out earlier today. Avon Fire and Rescue Service were called to the rubbish fire, involving pallets and other debris, in the park at around 1.20pm today, Tuesday, September 17.

Photos taken at the scene show Avon Fire and Rescue Service crews blasting water on a pile of smoking rubbish. A spokesperson for the service said the blaze is believed to have been started deliberately.

An eyewitness at the scene said the fire began at a homeless encampment. They said: "Firefighters put out a pallet fire at a homeless encampment in Castle Park."

A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews from Temple responded to a rubbish fire involving pallets in Castle Park, Bristol at 1:20pm today (17 September). Firefighters extinguished the fire safely. The cause of the fire is thought to be deliberate."
