A fire broke out at Cornwall's main hospital late last night (November 7). The blaze was first reported to Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service at around 11.40pm, after an alarm was activated within a building at the Royal Cornwall Hospital building in Treliske.

A short time after, a second call was received from on-site staff, reporting a smell of smoke from that building during an investigation. One appliance from Truro Fire Station and one from Tolvaddon Fire Station were immediately alerted.

On their arrival, smoke could be seen coming from the building, and the incident commander requested a further two appliances. The building was not part of the main hospital, and was not impacting on the care of any patients.

An appliance from Perranporth and a second appliance from Tolvaddon Fire Station were immediately alerted. Due to the number of appliances now in attendance, two further fire service wholetime officers, and an Incident Command Unit, were also alerted.

A small fire was subsequently located within the boiler room, and crews extinguished it using a CO2 extinguisher. The first-response crew, from Truro, remained on scene until an engineer arrived, before handing the incident over to them.
