Fire breaks out inside Birmingham retirement flat

Firefighters battled a blaze at a retirement flat in Sheldon. Four trucks were sent to an apartment at Radley Court, Sheldon Heath Road, at 3.50pm on Sunday (Jan 26).

Police and paramedics including an Incident Response Unit were also sent to the scene. The fire was extinguished and two fire crews left the incident.

West Midlands Fire Service did not give any details regarding potential injuries. According to reports on a local Facebook group, the fire was sparked by a knocked over candle and everyone managed to get to safety.

The fire service said: "We got the call at 3.50pm. There was a fire in a flat at Radley Court in Sheldon.

"We did have four appliances in attendance. Crews were sent from Hay Mills and Sheldon."
