Fire Breaks Out Next to Uruguay's Main Airport

A wildfire next to Carrasco International Airport in Uruguay’s capital, Montevideo, was contained before it reached any airport runways, firefighters said.

The blaze scorched 67 hectares (166 acres) of vegetation, local media reported.

The fire broke out on February 7 at around 2 pm and was contained during the night, local media reported.

Footage posted by the Uruguayan Air Force shows a helicopter dousing the fire, as well as firefighting equipment including a drone.
