Fire crews race to Scots power plant after blaze breaks out

Fire crews are currently battling a fire at a power plant in Fife this afternoon.

Emergency services raced to Markinch bio mass plant close to Glenrothes at around 2pm on Saturday, September 21 following reports of a fire.

Pictures from the scene show white smoke billowing over the facility as firefighters continue to tackle the blaze. Two fire engines are currently at the scene with more appliances on the way.

A spokesperson for Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were first called at 2.14pm. We currently have two appliances on the scene and one is currently on route to the fire. At this moment in time there is no impact on the community."
