Fire crews rushed to tackle a blaze that had ripped through the heart of a family home in Stonehouse.

Firefighters raced to the scene as flames engulfed the property in Dunside Way on Thursday afternoon.

Brave crews battled for several hours to bring the fire under control with one person suffering minor injuries and being treated by the Scottish Ambulance Service.

There were no other reports of casualties.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson told Lanarkshire Live: “We were alerted at 1.29pm on Thursday, September 19, to reports of a fire affecting one residential property on Dunside Way in Stonehouse, South Lanarkshire.

“At its height, Operations Control mobilised four fire appliances to the scene and one casualty was handed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.

“Crews left the scene at 5.45pm after ensuring the area was made safe.”

A fundraising page has been sent up to help the family will rebuilding their lives.

The funder, set up by family friend Annelise Malcolm, has already seen £1000 raised.

Writing on the GoFundMe page, Annelise said: “A tragic fire engulfed the family home of my best friend in Dunside Way, Stonehouse. Thankfully, all family members are safe and well.

“Myself, family, friends and neighbours are all devastated as not only have they lost their home, they have lost all personal belongings.

“It is therefore hoped that during this difficult time, people of the community near or afar will consider making a contribution to this fund.

“Any amount would be greatly appreciated and will go towards helping this family purchase essential items they desperately need to rebuild their lives.”

Locals also gave their reaction to the shocking news.

One woman said: “How devastating, so glad everyone is ok and got out safely. It’s terrifying how quickly this took hold and the damage it has caused.”

Another added: “I’m so sorry to read this. Keeping them all in my prayers.”
