Fire Engine In Restaurant Crash After Collision

A crash involving two fire engines sent one of them careering across a busy pavement and into the front of a Chinese restaurant.

Fifteen people, at least five of them firefighters, were injured in the incident in Monterey Park, California, which involved two trucks responding to a house fire.

One person, not a firefighter, was left with critical injuries.

The crash on a busy shopping street heaped shattered glass and rubble onto the pavement, with chairs and tables scattered inside.

Wendy Wu, a waitress working at the Lu Dumpling House, said the impact was so loud she thought it was an earthquake.

Another waitress, Vivian Lu, had arrived for her shift moments before.

She said she saw "a lot of people covered with blood", including a pedestrian who was knocked into the restaurant and had a mangled leg.

An investigation into the crash is under way.
