Fire that engulfed Top Nosh takeaway started accidentally

A huge fire that engulfed a takeaway stated accidentally, it has been confirmed. Multiple engines were sent to Top Nosh, in Clayton, after a blaze broke out on Saturday morning (September 14).

During the height of the incident the row of shops on Cambridge Drive was taped off as crews battled the flames

In a statement released today (September 17), a Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "We have extinguished a fire at a business in Newcastle-under-Lyme on Saturday. Multiple crews responded after we were called just after 12.10pm to reports of smoke coming from a building on Cambridge Drive, Clayton.

"All residents of flats above the premises are accounted for. No-one was injured. It was determined that the fire was started accidentally."

The owners of the takeaway have pledged to 'bounce back from this tragic event'. A post on Facebook read: "To all our esteemed customers, unfortunately at around 11.30am we had an electrical fire which spread and engulfed our whole shop. We are deeply saddened by the turn of events and are truly lost.

"We want to thank everyone in our community that acted fast and called out the fire service - and everyone that came down to check on us. We at Top Nosh Clayton are a family business and we lived to serve our community. We will do everything in our power to bounce back from this tragic event."
