Fire Engulfs Historic Building in Boston's Theater District

A fire engulfed a landmark bar in Boston, Massachusetts, on Monday, June 24, denting plans for its reopening after renovation.

The Boston Fire Department said units were at a four-alarm fire in a building under construction on Stuart Street.

According to local media, the building was home to the Jacob Wirth Restaurant, a German-American restaurant and bar that opened in 1868. It closed in 2018, but had been due to reopen under new ownership.

The Boston Fire Department estimated the fire caused $3 million worth of damage, but there were no injuries. Credit: Boston Fire Department via Storyful
